Squid Girl Review

World domination is her ultimate goal. Borne from the sea, pompously determined and with blue tentacles for hair, Squid girl plans to conquer the human race, halt the pollution of the seas…and then enjoy all the shrimp she can eat.

Unfortunately her invasion gets off to a bad start. Instead of taking over the popular beach hut owned by the Aizawa siblings, Squid girl has to waitress there to repay the debt incurred by accidentally punching through a wall.

Relaxed, fun filled and packed with gags Squid Girl is quite possibly one of the cutest animes around. Visually the animation captures the tone perfectly and if you’re a fan of shojo then this will definitely have you clapping your tentacles in delight.

Each episode consists of three short sketches that showcase squid girl’s interactions with our world and meeting new friends. Expect comic misunderstandings, endearing naivety and jokes that will make you smile throughout. It’s an anime with a very broad appeal factor but, as with most gag manga, watching more than four episodes in a row might see your attention (and laughter) wane. That said, as long as you’ve got a quirky sense of humour and enjoy exploring new anime that’s a little different then Squid Girl is a must see. You’ll squiddly love it.
