Slender: The Arrival

Just as we had recovered from Slender, (the terrifying indie game that had us rushing to collect pages and bricking it all the way - our gameplay here http://avant-gardeexperience.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/slender_1954.html) a new teaser trailer for its enhanced successor Slender: the Arrival has been released.

Back in November we’d heard rumours that Blue Isle Studios in America were working to develop a fully-fledged version of the game. Now confirmed, “Slender: The Arrival takes the best elements from the original game while expanding and improving every single aspect. We are turning Slender into a proper single player experience. The game will have vastly improved visuals, sound, more levels, and a story to tell. There is a lot more to the game this time around and we think it will be well worth it.” So get ready to be inexplicably scared senseless all over again!

The forest we spent so much time running in circles in is back but with more levels and environments that means much more to do than just collecting pages. We’re still running from the Slenderman but now have a host of other enemies to dash from too.

Mainly we’ll be looking to see just how this new version fares in comparison to its predecessor. Part of the originals charm lay in its deliciously disturbed but very basic premise which unnerved us no end. With a bigger game comes a higher risk of including elements that could ruin this experience and upsetting many of its diehard fans. The Slender team though have taken it in their stride: “We agree that the original Slender was truly spectacular in its simplicity. We are aware of this and are being very careful as we develop the new game. The story and improved visuals we are adding serves to improve on the experience, not take away from it.”

Slender: the Arrival will be available to purchase and download on MACs and PCs early 2013, with an expectation to release on XB360 and PS3 a little later on. Guess we’re be having those nightmares all over again.
