Battlefield 4 Beta.

Battlefield 4 Beta.

The core gameplay mechanics are fantastic.  The new interface is a breath of fresh air, with a particular theatricality that was long missing from previous instalments.  Battlefield 3 touched upon this, and it has been completed in the upcoming Battlefield 4.  I particularly enjoy the new lean mechanic when in cover.  This is simple, yet enables a fantastic new edge to a fast-paced battlefield.

I enjoy the in-game load screens, and the new map looks even nicer than the ones from Battlefield 3. The ability to feel deeply invested in each battle is a nice touch.  We want to turn the tide of war and be a hero.  It is our human nature to succeed, rather than fall by the way side due to hubris.

The weapons like any other Battlefield game are weighty, with excellent power, recoil and balance.  Each has its own strengths and weaknesses.  Whether this is an extra drop on distance, increased close-quarter standing, all of them have great playability.

Have a look at the awesome player classes, updated from Battlefield 3.

The natural downside to any Beta is of course, the fact of its existence as a Beta.  The Beta feels unfinished and is in need of much polishing.  The textures are rough, with particular details being down right ugly.  It is expected we will drop money on day of release, and I hope this is a well rounded purchase and not a sore spot in need of much work and constant server maintenance.

I remember when playing Battlefield 3 for the first time, thinking wonder and amazement at its technical merits, ground breaking attitude to the FPS genre, and I know the same should be the same for Battlefield 4.  I hope, November 1st will be a good day for a Gamer.  I am suspecting it will be a bad day for loved ones everywhere.

  1. This gun is one of the default weapons available only to the Assault Kit and to the Spetsnaz players. It's kinda pretty general weapon having some strengths and weaknesses. While facing in a long-distance battle, a Sniper Rifle would be the best but if while facing a battle in a close-range format, a submachine or a shotgun would be more good.
